Congratulations

A well deserved pat on the back for David Edmond for once again representing our Society so well last year.  As well as once again coming out as the Victor Ludorum, winning most points, in our own annual show David also collected some more silverware at other Society shows and three B.F.S. National Shows.

David started his travels at the B.F.S. Northern Show in Manchester at the end of July. He gained the Northern Cup & BFS Enamelled Medal for his superb Andrew Hadfield mini standard and also picked up a further 3 second and 1 third prize.  Travel companion Peter Long secured a fine third place with his Lechlade Gorgon in the Catch All class.
At the
B.F.S. Border Show in Hexham on 25th August David gained the Peter Long Trophy for best 'bush' in show grown on 1½" stem. He also collected a fine tally of 3 first, 6 second and 1 third prizes. Scarborough was also well represented by Norman McMullen who gained first prize with his superb Firecracker in the ornamental foliage class. Norman gained a further 3 second and a third prize - a very worthwhile trip! The Scarborough Society pair in fact scooped all prizes in the 3½" triphylla class!!
David Edmond and Norman McMullen then went on to repeat this fantastic feat at the Mid September Harrogate Autumn Flower Show!!
Harrogate proved a very happy hunting ground. The triphylla classes were dominated by David and Norman, scooping no less than 8 of the 12 placings.
Norman's Firecracker again proved its worth and won the ornamental foliage class. An equally impressive Thalia gained another first for Norman and he also got a second and 4 third prizes.
David gained 4 first and, if I counterd corectly, 8 second prizes, which also netted the Cliff Gadsby Memorial Trophy for the best triphylla in show, the BFS Silver Medal for runner-up to best in show and the BFS Crested Spoon.
Peter Long gained a second prize in the Catch All class with a fine plant of Ben de Jong.
It was also nice to see Mal Wilkinson back competing in earnest and not surprisingly he scooped the BFS Silver Salver for most first prizes in show.
The Harrogate Autumn Show was once again a fantastic success with more than 30,000 visitors enjoying and admiring the many varied displays, and what an excellent show case this venue is for the British Fuchsia Society.

I am sure everyone at our Society will join me in wishing 'our fine ambassadors' another very successful year. Yes, keep up the good work!!
