MARGARET SLATER
A Very Special Lady

You must be a very special person to have no less than three fuchsias named after you. Yes, we do have three cultivars are all named after one great fuchsia lady - Margaret Slater nee Brown . Margaret was the sister of the Rev. H. A. Brown, who had a fuchsia nursery in Chingford. The Rev Brown is thought to have been one of the founders of The Fuchsia Society. Margaret shared the family love of fuchsias, especially garden hardies.  Fittingly two of the cultivars to bear her name should be hardy. Margaret was a lovely lady, who gave freely of her time to fuchsias, and gave talks mainly on hardy fuchsias in the garden, she judged at shows, and served the BFS for many years.
