Scarborough & District Fuchsia Society Newsletter           January 2001

BFS Members Favourite Fuchsias

The space on the back of the BFS Membership renewal form was put to good use last year with a questionnaire to try and find out what the members favourite fuchsias really were.
It was obviously thought to be a good idea as most members responded. Not surprisingly the names of more than 200 cultivars with at least two mentions were submitted.
Equal first came
Celia Smedley and Swingtime.  .Annabel came a very closed third.
Others making up the top ten were:
Shelford, Thalia, Lye's Unique, Devonshire Dumpling, Royal Velvet, Genii, Marinka & Nellie Nuttall.
Not far behind came the following with equal votes:
Garden News, Love's Reward, Pink Fantasia, WALZ Jubelteen and Winston Churchill.
It was most interesting to see what a diverse range of fuchsias were amongst our favourites. They ranged from large doubles to quite small singles and as I always suspected hardy fuchsias being very popular!  C

The Last Word

Once again we have reached the last few lines of our magazine, with just enough space left to express my gratitude to the 'guest authors' for kindly granting permission to reproduce their work and so helping to turn this newsletter into a really good read for our members. Yes, fuchsia folk are friendly folk!
Hopefully you enjoyed reading it all and may I once again appeal to you to rally round now and let me have your news and views too. Any contribution, however small, will be very much appreciated. Be brave, have a go!!
