A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to all those members who were able to support the Society Social evening back in November. I hope you will all agree that the Park Manor Hotel proved to be an excellent choice of venue, offering us comfortable and relaxed surroundings.
The meal was of a high standard with all our special menu requests being catered for efficiently and served by pleasant and courteous staff.
Generous donations to the raffle meant that we had in the region of thirty winning tickets to draw out- no mean feat- thank you Dave and Peter.
The evening was rounded off by an entertaining performance from singer, Pat Richards and his keyboard accompanist, who treated us to several well known musical songs and some slightly risqué jokes.
Thank you all once again.

Fancy a Good Day Out?

As you might be aware, the Scarborough Fuchsia Society is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society. The benefits of the membership include a periodical magazine which is placed in our Library for your perusal.  As a affiliated Society we can also take advantage of special discounted tickets to the R.H.S. Flower Shows. These shows provide a perfect day out to enjoy the newest and best plants, be inspired by the award-winning show gardens and take advice and ideas from the country's best gardeners. 2001 promises to be better than ever, with 18 major shows in 6 venues across the country. These include:

  • 24-25 May  Chelsea Flower Show
  • 5-8 July  Hampton Court Palace Flower Show
  • 18-22 July  R.H.S. Flowers Show at Tatton Park
Our Secretary is wondering whether members would be interested in an organised trip to the Tatton Park Show. This will feature back to back gardens, floral marquees, themed floral displays, talks and demonstrations. There is a discount for parties of ten or more.

Tickets would cost £12 (a saving of £4) and there would be travel cost if we should decide on going by mini bus. Interested????  Please let Christine know during or before our March meeting.                  C

Letter received from Debra:

"Thank you so much for the donation of £34.10 which was raised by the members of the Scarborough & District Fuchsia Society. This contribution to our fundraising will be used carefully to provide hope and care for the families living with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) who are in need of our support.
We depend entirely upon voluntary donations to fund our work and, because EB is considered to be a rare condition, no special provision is made for it within the NHS. Consequently,
debra funds dedicated health support, and provides EB clinics to monitor and support all those who have EB. Debra also funds the only research being made into an effective treatment for EB. This treatment is now tantalising close and every £25 we receive brings it an hour nearer.
With many thanks once again - and with best wishes,

Laura Pratt (Mrs), Fundraising Manager"

Start the day with a little dance,
Start the day with a song.
